Dorm Essentials: what you actually need

This past year I have gained a lot of insight about things you actually need coming in as a college freshman. My credentials? I shared a small room and bathroom with two other people. So, here's a list of things I found to be useful for my freshman year that won't break your wallet!

4L Stacking Bin with Lid - Brightroom

Target: $5

I'm a knick-knack girly which means I collect random things that I really don't need. Bins like this are perfect to hold your random items around the room and its super cute. This way, you won't lose any of your belongings and it tidy's up your room in the process! I got a bunch of different sizes for different parts of the room.

Target: $9.60

This thing is perfect for creating extra space in your closet. I'd recommend to wait until you actually see your closet before you get one of these just so you actually know it'll fit. I put smaller clothing items like my gym clothes in this. I think one of the best parts is you how can shift it around your closet. The velcro strap on top loops around the closet rack which makes it super easy to move around. Overall, it's great for freeing up space.

Shower Flip Flop - Room Essentials

Target: $6.00

For the love of God please get a pair of shower shoes. I don't care if you don't take anything else from this blog but please get shower shoes. The last thing you want is to get toe fungus the first week of college. I got lucky because my institution doesn't have communal showers, but if yours does you absolutely NEED shower shoes.

Waterproof Quilted Mattress Pad - Room Essentials

Target: $12.00

Everyone always says you need a mattress topper but they never tell you which one you actually should get. Let me tell you! First off, you need to know your mattress size. Most dorms mattresses are Twin XL. You can generally find these dimensions on your schools housing website. Once you know the mattress size, get a mattress topper that built into a fitted sheet. That way, its like just another bed sheet and you don't have to worry about it. Whereas with the mattress pads, it'll constantly shift over under your bedsheet and that's just annoying. Get a fitted sheet mattress topper!
